The Panathinaikos Volleyball Club was established in 1919 and existed until 1930. In 1938 it was re-established and won the first local championship title in 1945, but also in 1946 and 1947. In 1961 the first national championship took place, when Panathinaikos took the second place.Two years later Panathinaikos won its first national championship overmatching Milon by 3-0 sets. Panathinaikos has won 16 championship titles and 3 national cup titles in total. In 1969 the fisrt national volleyball division was established and in 1970 PAO won the championship with coach Savvas Grostanovic without being defeated!
As far as the European Cups are concerned, Panathinaikos has never managed to win any European Title, but the club's presence was more than noticeable during some seasons. Alexandros Ellinas is the chairman of the club.
